A taste of East Turkestan

Kaynam has been serving Uyghur food in Carnegie since 2017. The noodles are made by hand in the kitchen, and you'll find them in the laghman, the big plate chicken and the stir fries.

The menu comes from Xinjiang, where lamb, cumin and chilli show up all over the table. The skewers are cooked over charcoal and the samsa come out of the oven.

Everything is halal, and most plates are made for sharing. Bring a group, order a few dishes for the middle of the table and take your time.

“This is probably the best Uyghur restaurant in Melbourne. The food is reasonably priced and served with generous portion. We ordered different signature dishes and they all tasted amazing. My favourite is definitely the braised lamb chops with Turkish bread. The lamb was so tender and flavourful. The lamb skewers were the must try as well. Don't forget to order the big plate chicken and the yogurt drink! I can't wait to return to try the other dishes.”

“I have dined here countless times and the food is always amazing. Fresh ingredients, quality meats and made to order. The lamb and chicken skewers are tender, juicy and packed with Uyghur flavours. The hand pulled spicy lamb noodles are another favourite. The lamb dumplings....just order them trust me! Staff is courteous and quick with service. The free drinks are always welcomed. Definitely on the pricey side but well worth it! Highly recommend dining here.”

“Really tasty food! We ordered the homemade wide cut noodles stir fry, the pan fried lamb dumplings and the spicy chicken fried with Birds Eye chilli.
The servings were all very generous and each had a great balance in flavour.
Would highly recommend the noodles that they apparently make in-house.”
